AURORA, OH: Network Technologies Inc (NTI) today announced the addition of the USB Extender to their popular line of USB products. This extender breaks through the five-meter barrier on USB extension. It allows the user to connect one USB-enabled PC, Sun, or Mac computer up to 100 feet away from the attached USB devices, using standard CAT5 patch cable. Up to four USB devices (such as keyboards, mice, cameras, printers, scanners, etc.) are supported.

Raghav Mehta, sales engineer at NTI, explains, “Our customers told us the five-meter maximum extension on most USB cables didn’t meet their needs. We designed our USB Extender to combine the convenience of USB with the extension they need, at a very affordable price. It’s ideal for file server control and security surveillance cameras.”

The extender provides transparent data extension and is compatible with both low-speed and full-speed USB devices. It is compatible with any USB-enabled PC, Sun, or Mac host computer, and a model supporting Mac soft (keyboard) power-on is available. An AC adapter on the remote unit provides ample power for the USB Extender and attached devices.

The extender acts as a remote USB hub. It is comprised of two units, the local unit and the remote unit, which are interconnected with CAT5 cable through their RJ45 connectors. Hosts are connected via the USB Type B connector on the local unit. A four-port USB hub is built in to the remote unit. Peripherals can be added or changed using simple Plug and Play – there is no need to shut down and restart the computer. The computer automatically detects the peripheral device and configures the necessary software.

The USB-C5 Extender features a durable, compact metal chassis measuring just just 5.3 x 4.3 x 1.3 inches (WxDxH). It is priced at $180. The USB-C5-M model supports Mac soft (keyboard) power-on, and is priced at $220.
